For You, Buddy

Jumpstart visits Brandon in the hospital and promises a win.

Jumpstart had been here before this season, so he knew his way around. The oncology ward of the Memphis hospital where one of his most ardent fans, Brandon, had been staying.

He smiled at the nurses as he walked by their main desk and made his way to room 723.

Just like last time, Brandon’s parents were waiting outside of his room, but unlike last time, they appeared to welcome him. They had watched Jumpstart’s transformation over the last season and were happy to have Jumpstart come and cheer up their sickly child.

“Hi guys,” said Jumpstart to greet the parents. “How’s Brandon doing today?”

The mom smiled and the dad gave Jumpstart a firm handshake.

“His spirits are up since you turned things around the past few episodes of Gold Strike,” the father replied. “We didn’t tell him you were coming, so he may get a little excited.”

“That’s great to hear,” said Jumpstart with a smile. “I’ll go say hello.”

The veteran Canadian wrestler slowly pushed the door and stuck his head in the hospital room. Amidst the beeps and bloops of the medical equipment, a young child lay in the bed with tubs and monitors hooked up to him.

“Jumpstart!?” Brandon exclaimed upon seeing his hero.

Jumpstart fully entered the room and approached the bed with a smile.

“Hey, Brandon! How are you doing today?” said Jumpstart warmly. He walked over and took a seat next to the bed.

Brandon’s smile couldn’t have been any wider.

“Better now that you’re here! But shouldn’t you be preparing for you match against Violence?” the young boy asked.

“Ah, there’s plenty of time for that. Though I wanted to make sure to check in on you and assure you that I’m not going anywhere! Once I get rid of Violence, nobody will have to deal with him again.”

“I hope so,” Brandon replied glumly. “Now that you’re back to your old self, I can’t imagine losing you from Golden Pro Wrestling.”

Jumpstart leaned in and patted Brandon on the shoulder.

“Don’t worry, buddy. I’m going to give it everything that I’ve got, and I know that’s going to be enough. Just like I want you to give it everything you’ve got to get better. Do you understand?”

With a renewed sense of optimism, Brandon nodded back.

“Alright, Brandon,” Jumpstart continued. “I’ve got to get back to the gym, but thanks for being there when no one believed in me anymore. I’m dedicating my match at Starfall to you.”

“Thanks so much for coming down, Jumpstart,” replied Brandon. “Having you come by is exactly what the doctor ordered.”

Jumpstart gave Brandon a final pat of the shoulder before heading to the doorway. He turned back to Brandon one last time.

“Keep getting better, Brandon. I’ll see you after Starfall.”
