Inside their Memphis apartment, Whatevs sat on a couch in front of a TV, however they weren’t paying attention to the streaming movie. Rather Whatevs was scrolling on their phone.
Since they had come to Memphis, Whatevs had yet to make any real friends, which meant most of their nights were relegated to boredom and screen time.
Social media’s curated list of memes, posts, and ads felt boring tonight. That was, until a familiar blue-haired oaf appeared. It was some sort of self-recorded video, which Whatevs felt obligated to watch.
Of course, Awoke had confronted Whatevs at Gold Strike 21 with a well-intentioned attempt to become “allies.” Awoke’s presumption that Whatevs had joined Golden Pro Wrestling for a social cause was offensive, so Whatevs had rebuffed Awoke.
There was no agenda; Whatevs joined GPW to win at wrestling. It was that simple.
The short video started with Awoke fumbling his phone around until he finally got a good grasp and began to talk into the camera.
“Listen, I know after Gold Strike 21, there’s something that’s on the minds of all my Awokened.”
Whatevs rolled their eyes at Awoke’s lame branding for his followers.
“You see, there’s a new wrestler on the roster this season. A wrestler of courage, of fortitude, and by all accounts, ambiguous gender. Of course, gender is a spectrum and there are infinite types. This is a fact.”
Sitting on their couch, Whatevs shook their head in disbelief.
“If you didn’t already know it, I’m talking about Whatevs. And I, the ultimate ally, reached my friendly hand out… only to be pushed away. But why?”
Awoke pauses and looks away dramatically and then refocuses on his phone’s camera.
“I think the reason why Whatevs wasn’t receptive is because they are so independent. Which I find inspiring! If Whatevs is watching this, and I hope that they are, I just want them to know that I am the ULTIMATE ally. Don’t worry, I’m not here to step on your toes, and whenever I can, I will help uplift you and fight for your rights. Peace out.”
The blue-haired social justice warrior smiled awkwardly into the camera and the video ended.
“Oh what the fuck,” Whatevs murmured out loud.
