Awoke and the other protestors marched in a circle in front of the Tennessee State Capitol building carrying signs. Awoke’s read ‘Let Them Play!’ while others featured their own form of wit mixed with a passionate message to allow trans women to play in girls’ sports.
The Tennessee State Capitol building in downtown Nashville was decidedly unique. Unlike other state capitol buildings, it lacked a dome but rather had a tall central tower that resembled a Greek Ionic temple. And its condition harkened back to the Civil War with actual cannon damage still visible on the structure.
The groups of tourists took note of Awoke and his protestors but simply walked past them rather than join in their struggle.+
“What do we want!?” Awoke shouted.
“Trans women dominance!” the rest group shouted.
“When do we want it!?” Awoke continued.
“Very soon before school sports resume!” came the response.
Since Tennessee had passed SB 228 / HB 3 in 2021, transgender students had been forced to compete according to their birth-assigned sex. A perceived travesty that Awoke was all too aware of, especially since Whatevs had joined Golden Pro Wrestling.
Whatevs, the ambiguously gendered wrestler, had vexed Awoke since they joined at the beginning of Season 5. They simply didn’t seem to care about the bigger issue of trans rights the same was Awoke did.
A news crew camera approached the group and Awoke happily disengaged from the active protest to give a public statement. He was all too familiar with this particular journalist after his interview about the abortion rights protest in Season 1.
“Mr. Awoke! We see that you’re protesting again! Do you mind sharing a statement with the media?” asked the journalist who quickly raised the microphone to the big blue-haired wrestler’s face.
“Mind? I would love to! The fact is that trans women deserve the opportunity to grind cis women into dust! The leaders of Tennessee need to repeal and replace their terrible legislation!”
“What do you say to the 70 to 80% of Americans who disagree with this statement?”
Awoke scowled and thought for a moment.
“I would say that this isn’t the first time that I’ve been both the minority and completely right! The only solution is to shove our absolutely correct opinion down the majority’s throat!”
“That’s quite a statement, Awoke. Is this related to your ongoing feud with Whatevs in Golden Pro Wrestling?”
“Feud?!” replied Awoke with a shocked face. “As anyone can plainly see, we’re allies! I even helped squash the white male patriarchy at Gold Strike 23!”
“The way everyone else saw it was that you interfered in Whatevs match against Crosscheck Beck against their wishes. In fact, it has seemed like Whatevs wants little to do with you.”
“Hmph!” grunted the San Francisco SJW. “If there’s one thing I care about, it’s the truth! I’ll check in with my close ally, Awoke, at Gold Strike 23!”
Awoke turned away from the camera and rejoined his group of protestors.
