Mi Familia

Ejercito de Juan returns home to find his family missing.

As he approached his small home, Juan could instantly tell that something was wrong.

Yes, his home was rather run down and in need of repairs, but not like it was tonight. There was splintered wood where the door frame once stood, and the door was wide open.

The house itself was dark, and there wasn’t any sign of life as there should be. Normally when he returned after work, his house was busy with his mother making dinner, his wife caring for his children, and his brother Pedro watching television with the volume too loud.

But not tonight. Tonight, the house was dark, eerie and silent.

The masked luchador entered through the broken doorway and flipped on a light switch. It took a moment, but the home illuminated and showed the aftermath of whatever carnage had occurred.

Lamps were knocked off end tables, chairs were tipped over, and there were obvious signs of struggle.

Juan hurriedly began searching throughout the house for his family, checking room and room, but could not find anything.

He panicked at the thought of harm coming to his family, and his daughters, especially.

Dazed and concerned, Juan returned to the kitchen where he found a slip of paper, which he examined closely.

ICE WARRANT, ORDEN DE ARRESTO DEL ICE

His heart skipped a beat as he realized what had happened.

ICE had come for his family.

ICE has his family.

He crumpled the piece of paper in his hand and instantly thought of Awoke, the blue-haired oaf who had inadvertently tipped ICE off to Juan’s status as an illegal immigrant.

“Despertada pagará,” Juan said to himself through clinched teeth.
