The chain link fences of the Memphis ICE detention facility loomed upward about ten to twelve feet above Awoke. The blue-haired oaf scowled toward the barbed wire strung along the top of the fence.

The San Francisco social justice warrior gripped the sign in his hands with contempt and raised it above his head defiantly. An ICE agent standing on the other side of the fence looked at Awoke’s sign, which read “BE NICE, NOT ICE”, and began to laugh.

“Fighting fascism is NOT funny!” Awoke yelled toward the federal law enforcement officer.

Behind Awoke were a loyal stable of protestors also raising signs and pumping their fists.

“What do we want!?” yelled Awoke.

“The freedom of Ejercito de Juan’s family and restorative justice for those unfairly punished for breaking immigration laws!” the crowd responded in unison.

It had been nearly six hours of protesting, and all Awoke had managed to stir up was one curious ICE agent laughing at them.

GAH! he thought to himself.

Awoke was absolutely certain he wasn’t responsible for the capture and detainment of Ejercito de Juan’s family.

And, for the sake of self-awareness, he even ran down the events that had led up to the fascists taking the purely innocent family who had skirted around United States entry laws.

Did he post a couple social media videos that gained tens of thousands of engagements?

Yes.

Did he explicitly tag the Memphis ICE social media accounts in those social media posts?

Yes.

But that’s where all the coincidences ended according to him.

“What do we want!?” Awoke yelled again.

“The freedom of Ejercito de Juan’s family and restorative justice for those unfairly punished for breaking immigration laws!” the crowd responded in unison again.

The ICE agent, no longer amused, turned and walked back into the building, which prompted a loud cheer from the crowd of protestors.

“We DID it!” Awoke proclaimed. “He is going back inside to free our little impoverished friend’s family!”

Awoke and the rest of his protestors began hugging and crying with one another in triumph.

But despite waiting another ten hours outside of the ICE detention facility, Awoke and his didn’t see Ejercito de Juan’s family be released.
